Paul has been a McDonald's All-American in high school. He attended Wake Forest University for 2 years of college basketball where he assisted the Demon Deacons reach their first truly number one ranking. He has been selected 4th overall in the 2005 NBA draft with the New Orleans Hornets and traded to the Clippers in 2011.
At December 8, 2011, the Hornets agreed to a three-team deal transferring Paul on the Los Angeles Lakers. The NBA, that owned the team at the time, nullified the offer, along with commissioner David Stern claiming New Orleans would be better off holding Paul.The clubs involved on the trade attempted to negotiate the league to reverse its ruling and reconstruct the offer to no avail.On December 12, the Hornets decided to a trade sending Paul for the Los Angeles Clippers, but the deal broke down after the NBA added further needs for the original terms. 2 days later, the teams finally formed the trade, sending Paul and two future second round draft picks to the Clippers for Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu, plus the Minnesota Timberwolves' unprotected first round pick in the 2012 draft. After the deal's completion, Paul declared that he might choose into the final season for his contract and remain in La for about two more seasons.
